The Challenge

There are sectors where an engineering error is an inconvenience. And then there is energy — where a miscalculated protection relay or an undersized blast enclosure can stop a grid, endanger a site, or trigger a nuclear regulatory investigation. The NOVTRIQ partners have spent careers working in that second category.

Across coal and gas generation stations, licensed nuclear facilities, high-voltage transmission networks, and grid-scale battery storage, the team accumulated front-line delivery experience that very few consultancies can match. This work spanned multiple European jurisdictions, requiring direct engagement with national regulatory bodies, grid operators, and nuclear safety authorities — with full fluency in EN Eurocodes, IEC standards, and the nuclear regulatory frameworks applicable in each territory.

What We Did

Coal & gas generation:

• Mechanical and electrical design for auxiliary systems — cooling water, compressed air, fuel handling conveyor structures
• Structural assessments of turbine hall steelwork and boilerhouse frameworks under live operational conditions
• Upgrade of HV switchgear rooms and cable management systems to current safety standards

Nuclear facilities:

• Mechanical engineering support for secondary circuit systems at licensed nuclear sites
• Design of blast-rated enclosures and seismic restraint systems for safety-critical M&E plant
• Interface management with nuclear safety cases and design authority sign-off processes
• Compliance with ONR guidance notes and nuclear-specific QA regimes

Energy transmission & storage:

• Structural and civil design for overhead line tower foundations and substation civil works
• Containerised BESS — structural support frames, thermal management, fire suppression design
• Cross-border HV transmission infrastructure coordinated with national TSOs across mainland Europe
• Pumped hydro preliminary design: civil earthworks, tunnel lining, pressure shaft structural calculations
